About the Instructor
Although she now calls Massachusetts home, Elizabeth Sylvan grew up amidst the woods and rural farmlands of Pennsylvania, which instilled in her a love of birds and wildflowers and led her on to explore the wilder places depicted in her art quilts. She uses fiber to capture that moment of solitude when the observer feels connected to the world. Her fiber collages are intended to delight the eye and quiet the mind while exploring value, color, and natural themes mixed with a touch of the whimsical.  She works with a variety of piecing techniques, predominantly raw-edge machine applique, fusing, free motion quilting, and thread-painting. True to quilting tradition, she often uses whatever materials she has on hand, including cotton, silk, lace, and ribbon, but she’s also been known to use recycled items such as dryer sheets, foil yogurt lids and chocolate wrappers.
